7 hikers lost at Manoa Falls

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a hikers in distress call above Manoa Falls Trail Saturday afternoon.

The 911 call was made at 6:34 p.m. and officials were on scene by 6:44.

It was reported seven hikers were lost. One hiker was able to find his was to the trailhead after separating from the group, but the remaining six were unable to descend the trail on their own.

Units were able to assess that none of the hikers were injured and the hiking party was safely airlifted to the nearest landing zone where medical attention was declined.

HFD reminds the public of hiking safety by advising hikers to compare their level of fitness to the trail description, stay hydrated and stay on the trail.
