Witnesses said the stabbing occurred at a bus stop outside of Walmart on Keeaumoku Street just before 10 p.m. The victim, a Walmart employee, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

"I run out and I see like 20 cops. They were already putting someone into the ambulance," stated Giancarlo Legrand, owner of Mimi's Peruvian Cuisine. "The [suspect] must've got away because there were just police swarming everywhere."

A statement from Walmart's corporate office read:

We can confirm Saturday night's victim of the bus stop attack was an associate of our store, and our hearts are with him and his loved ones during this difficult time. We’ll continue working closely with law enforcement through the course of their investigation.

Charles Crowson, Corporate Affairs Senior Director

According to HPD's crime map, the most common crimes reported throughout the week within one mile of Keeaumoku Street were: Larceny (46 reports), vandalism (13 reports), burglary (12 reports), and assault (11 reports). The Ala Moana- Kaka'ako Neighborhood Board Chair, Kathleen Lee, said the level of crime in this area has remained the same.

"We hear about it and things like this happen but it doesn't mean that it happens all the time," stated Lee. " According to the reports from HPD, there have been no significant spikes in crime in our area, but it does frustrate us as residents to learn about when something as tragic like this happens.

Lee added the Neighborhood Board is working with first responders and community members to make the area safer and prevent crimes like this from happening.
