HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A recent mud-racing event on state-owned agricultural land has resulted in a notice of violation after video footage surfaced showing vehicles drag racing in the mud with hundreds of attendees present.
Scott Wong, who organized the event, apologized to the Agri-Business Development Board, explaining that the intention was to till the land and show appreciation for construction workers and their families.
"It was a poor judgment call on my part to include mud bogging and mud dragging as soil tilling," Wong admitted.
He emphasized that the event also involved agricultural activities aimed at soil remediation and planting.
State officials became aware of the event and requested its cancellation the night before, but it was deemed too late to ensure a safe halt to the activities.
