HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Hawaiian Electric crews are responding to a power outage in the Downtown Honolulu and Nuuanu area that began just before 9 p.m.
According to HECO's outage map, more than 2,800 customers do not have electricity in Downtown, Kalihi, Liliha, Nuuanu, Palama, Punchbowl, and Tantalus.
Originally, officials said power was expected to be restored around 10:30 p.m. but has been pushed back to 2 a.m.
HECO and HPD are on scene and the Department of Emergency Management has been notified.
No word yet on what has caused the outage.
Drivers are advised to drive with caution and avoid the area except for local traffic. Intersections should be treated as four-way stops.
This is the second outage Downtown has experienced in less than a week after multiple outages affected areas between Bishop and Mililani streets due to a damaged underground cable.
