HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A weak upper-level disturbance located a few hundred miles southeast of Oahu, is bringing high clouds over the eastern half of the state this evening.. Expect typical trade wind weather through Tuesday night, with breezy winds and passing showers mainly over windward and mountain areas. Showers will be slightly more frequent due to the upper low, with some moderate showers possible, especially overnight and in the early morning.
As the upper-level low gradually moves westward over the next few days, drier conditions and lower inversion levels are expected by mid-week. From Wednesday into Thursday, a strengthening surface high far north of the state will increase trade wind speeds to breezy and strong levels for the second half of the week and into the weekend. An old frontal boundary will move in with the trades late this week, possibly leading to increased windward showers from late Friday into Saturday.
Small Craft Advisory until 6 PM HST Tuesday for Maalaea Bay, Pailolo Channel, Alenuihaha Channel, Big Island Leeward Waters, Big Island Southeast Waters.
