HONOLULU (KHON2) -- If you normally drive on the H-3 Halawa bound, you might want to find a different route for Friday, Nov. 22.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation will close the H-3 freeway heading to Halawa from the Halekou interchange to the Halawa interchange.
The closure will go into effect starting at 7 p.m. on Friday and reopens at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.
HDOT crews will conduct tunnel cleaning, systems repair and general maintenance.
On-ramps to the freeway from Kamehameha Highway and Likelike Highway will also be closed to conduct work.
If you plan on traveling between the windward side of Oahu to town, officials advise drivers to take alternate routes such as the Likelike Highway to Pali Highway.
Message boards have also been posted to notify drivers of the closure.
Officials said special duty police officers will be available on-site to help direct traffic and conduct road closure procedures.
