Dry conditions this weekend as kona winds take over the trades

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Trade winds are set to be replaced by kona winds starting Friday night lasting through late Tuesday. Shower activity will be limited with low rain chances this weekend. A moderate northwest swell moves through on Saturday. Trades return by Thanksgiving.

Friday and Saturday:

  • Trade winds: Will weaken over the next few days.
  • Breezes: Expect localized land and sea breezes, especially on Saturday.
  • Rainfall: Minimal rainfall is expected.
  • Temperatures: Overnight lows will be in the mid to lower 60s.
  • Cloud cover: Increased high clouds on Friday and Saturday--very cloudy.

Sunday:

  • Trade winds: Light and variable or northerly.
  • Rainfall: Possible showers on the Big Island.
  • Front: A weak front may bring showers to northern Kauai Sunday night and Oahu on Monday.
