HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The blue carpet was rolled out at the Disney Aulani Resort for the highly anticipated world premiere of Moana 2.
The sequel reunites the beloved characters Moana and Maui three years after their original adventure, setting sail on a grand new voyage alongside a crew of unexpected sea-farers.
Hawaii actress Auli'i Cravalho returns to voice Moana, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson reprises his role as Maui in the sequel, which continues to explore the rich cultural themes introduced in the first film.
In a recent interview, Clark Spencer, president of Walt Disney Animation Studios, spoke about the importance of showcasing diverse cultures in Disney films.
"It's so important," Spencer said. "What we love to do is find parts of the world that maybe haven't been told in the world of animation because animation is for everybody— from someone who is 3 years old to someone who is 80 years old. When we start to tell these stories, we spend a lot of time building cultural trust to make sure we're accurately portraying these communities. It's incredibly important."
Moana 2 will hit theaters nationwide on November 27.
