HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A 19-year-old male from Kailua-Kona was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Highway 19) on Friday, November 22.
The incident occurred around 6:42 p.m. near the 84-mile marker in North Kona.
The victim was riding a green 2024 Kawasaki Ninja sport bike. Police said the rider was attempting to overtake multiple vehicles when his bike collided head-on with a silver 2021 Honda CR-V driven by a 65-year-old woman from Kamuela.
The motorcyclist was transported to Kona Community Hospital but was later pronounced dead at 10:53 p.m.
The driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries and was treated at the hospital before being released.
The Hawaii Police Department’s Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit has opened a Coroner’s Inquest investigation into the crash.
