HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The second major outage of the week, lasting four days, ended with power being restored in Chinatown and parts of downtown on Thursday.
The power outage forced numerous businesses to shut down, resulting in lost revenue.
If you suspect your electronic devices have been damaged during a power outage, you have the option to submit a claim to HECO within 30 days of the outage.
Ways to file a claim with Hawaiian Electric
- Complete the Oahu Claim for Damage or Loss form and submit by email or mail to: Hawaiian Electric, Claims Department | P.O. Box 2750 Honolulu, HI 96840-0001
- Send a letter with full and necessary information to the address above.

You will be eligible for compensation if it is found that the damage on your device resulted from factors under HECO's responsibility. It is important to keep damaged items until the claim has been resolved.
The Public Utilities Commission suggests the following tips to protect your electronic equipment:
- Unplug sensitive electronic equipment during rainstorms, if there is lightning, and if the power goes out.
- Properly ground your cable TV, telephone, and utility service lines.
- Install protective devices like a surge suppressor or an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to protect individual sensitive equipment.
