According to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Zhang was presented with a check of $175,969.87.
The funds helped support her financially with medical bills, rehabilitation, and counseling. She was also able to bring her mother from China to Hawaii.
As of now, Zhang continues to experience pain and discomfort due to her injuries but remains hopeful about her recovery.
"Despite the challenges she faces, Danying has shown incredible courage and determination,” said the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii executive vice president, Sonny Zhang. “She is grateful for the outpouring of support that has helped her stay strong during the darkest moments of her life."
Now, Zhang awaits her next surgery in six to 12 months, depending on her recovery.
