HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The military has confirmed a piece from an aircraft owned and operated by a civilian contractor fell from the sky into an Ewa Beach community.
Officials said it was a trailing edge flap from a Metrea Aerospace KC-135 aircraft, which is an aerial refueling aircraft, weighs approximately 60 pounds and is about 15 feet long.
Neighbors said the incident happened around 6 p.m. Thursday night. Witnesses saw the part fall inside a lagoon near the Kapilina Beach Homes in Ewa Beach.
Residents pulled the object out of the water and it was recovered by Metrea Aerospace.
Fortunately, no one was hurt. KHON2 has reached out to Metrea Aerospace and the FAA for comment.
