This year, people in Micronesia will get a literacy boost as the Farrington High School football team packed up the books that were not sold during the sale.

Officials said more than 30,000 books were loaded into containers donated by Matson. The books are headed for Chuuk and Pohnpei in Micronesia where internet service is spotty, so these resources will be pivotal tools in their learning.

It does a really good job with continuing education, reading literature and those things that are super important to our community. So to have our boys get back to an organization that gives back to so many other ones is truly a blessing. That's one of the things they talked about and how these books help support kids in Micronesia that don't have these resources and their capabilities to actually read books."

Mike Lafaele, Farrington High School Head Football Coach

The Annual Booksale helped support 51 Hawaii public libraries for programs such as Summer Reading Programs, National Library Week, library tours of Honolulu Theatre for Youth, materials for library collections, awards and more.
