HONOLULU (KHON2) -- While the Fourth of July brings people together for cookouts and beach days, everyone looks forward to all the fireworks that light up the night sky to celebrate Independence Day.
Of course, not all fireworks being set off are legal. According to the Department of Law Enforcement, there are three ways to report illegal fireworks, including a new smartphone app.
The DLE's new SaferWatch app will allow tipsters to provide information such as videos and photographs of those who are using illegal fireworks.
Tipsters may also report fireworks through the DLE's website or by calling the anonymous tip line at (808) 517-2182.
If you are submitting a tip through the anonymous tip line, callers are advised to leave a detailed message describing the types of illegal fireworks being used, the address or location involved and the descriptions and names of those involved.
Tips submitted on the website should "fill out the information fields with as much detailed information as possible.
"All reports to the DLE will remain anonymous unless the reporting person wishes to provide their identity or contact information," said director Jordan Lowe in a news release.
The Illegal Fireworks Task Force will then take the information, analyze it and begin an investigation on any leads gained.
