The King Kamehameha Celebration Commission is this weekend

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The celebration will consist of a parade, culturally significant exhibits, and festivities across every island in our state. Kainoa Daines, Chair of King Kamehameha Celebration Commission, shared what you can expect for the weekend ahead.

For those who may not know the commission was created by Territorial Law in 1939 and traces its origins back to the founding of the holiday back to 1872. It is a means to celebrate King Kamehameha, his unification, and his legacy meanwhile perpetuating the Hawaiian culture.

This year you can expect parades and a ho‘olaule‘a across the state, along with lei draping ceremonies at the three King Kamehameha statues.

The lineup is as follows:

Kauaʻi

  • King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade, June 15, 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. starts at Vidihna Stadium up Rice Street to the Historic County Building.
  • King Kamehameha Celebration Hoʻolaulea (Līhuʻe), June 15, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Historic County Building Lawn

Molokaʻi

  • King’s Gala, Kaunakakai – Hiro’s ʻOhana Grill at Hotel Molokaʻi. June 7, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.
  • King Kamehameha Celebration Hoʻolaulea (Kaunakakai), Molokaʻi Community Health Center, June 8, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Hawaiʻi Island

  • King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade (Kona) June 8, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • King Kamehameha Celebration Hoʻolauleʻa (Kona) Huliheʻe Palace, June 8, 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • King Kamehameha Statue Lei Draping (Kohala), King Kamehameha Statue (Kohala), June 11, 8 a.m. Morning protocol begins at sunrise, royal procession, hālau performances, receiving lei at 7 a.m.; lei draping 8 a.m.
  • King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade (Kohala), June 11, 9 a.m. 
  • King Kamehameha Celebration Hoʻolauleʻa (Kohala), June 11, 11 a.m.
  • King Kamehameha Statue Lei Draping (Hilo), June 10, 5 p.m.

Maui

  • Nā King Kamehameha Commemorative Pāʻū Parade (Wailuku), June 15, 9:45 a.m.
  • Nā King Kamehameha Commemorative Hoʻolaulea (Wailuku), June 15, 9 a.m.

Oʻahu

  • King Kamehameha Statue Lei Draping (Honolulu), Aliʻiōlani Hale, June 7, 2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. Read the lei draping protocol
  • 107th King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade (Honolulu), ʻIolani Palace to Kapiʻolani Park, June 8, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • King Kamehameha Celebration Hoʻolauleʻa (Honolulu), Queen Kapiʻolani Park, June 8, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • King Kamehameha I tribute at the statue of Kamehameha I, Aliʻiōlani Hale, June 11, 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Sponsored by the Daughters and Sons of the Hawaiian Warriors-Māmakakaua.
