HONOLULU (KHON2) -- CPR, or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, is crucial because it can save lives in emergencies where someone's heart has stopped beating or they're not breathing. Fire Captain, Kama Ortiz joined KHON2 to share four proper protocols and demonstrated the proper form when performing CPR.
CPR helps maintain blood circulation to vital organs like the brain, which can prevent brain damage and increase the chances of survival.
Captain Kama shared that performing CPR promptly can significantly increase the chance of survival for someone in cardiac arrest. It keeps oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other organs until the heart can be restarted.
Any organizations and groups can request bystander CPR awareness through their website at the Requests tab.
Captain Kama said, "Individuals can also come to the HFD Museum every 3rd Saturday of the month from 9-1 to learn bystander CPR for FREE! No RSVPs are needed. (RSVPs are needed for Museum tours held at the same time)"
