HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Since the passing of professional surfer and lifeguard, Tamayo Perry, the North Shore community and many others have been grieving his loss.
The late Perry, who died at 49 years old, was doing what he loved, padding out to Goat Island when he suffered multiple apparent shark bites.
Nearly three weeks later, Perry's wife, Emilia, and officials from Honolulu Ocean Safety will hold a funeral service at Sunset Beach Neighborhood Park beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 14.
The service will be open to the public to celebrate and honor his life and will include speakers, worship and a slideshow in remembrance of his infectious spirit and great faith.
Following the service, Emilia has organized a memorial paddle out across the street at Pipeline, the spot where Tamayo always surfed.
Officials said there are no drones allowed at the service as a flower drop by the Honolulu Fire Department will take place over the paddle out. Hawaiian Water Patrol, along with City and County lifeguards, will be there to ensure the safety of those who choose to participate.
We are mourning an extraordinary life lost and we want everyone who wishes to celebrate Tamayo’s life to be able to do so safely. We ask the public to be patient and respectful of the events as they unfold.

Tamayo's family said the love and support has been overwhelming and showed the legacy he left behind.
“The amount of aloha we have been shown in the days and weeks following Tamayo’s death has been tremendously comforting and healing,” Emilia added.
It is also a great reminder for community members to continue to look out for each other when surfing.
Those planning to attend are advised to consider carpooling, taking public transit or riding a bicycle as heavy traffic is expected.
Those who cannot make the event in person but would still like to show their support should tune in to the live stream that will be held on Livestream Hawaii's YouTube channel starting at 2:30 p.m.
