HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The United States Army is looking to renew major land leases on Oahu and the public has the opportunity to weigh in on the plan.
Currently, the Army retains approximately 6,300 acres of state-owned land at Kahuku Training Area, Kawailoa-Poamoho Training Area, and Makua Military Reservation.
The Army has leased this land since 1964 and is coming up on its lease, which expires on Aug. 16, 2029.
According to the Army, all areas of land are needed to conduct military training and meet its ongoing training requirements and will continue its current activities with no new construction.
Anyone who would like to weigh in on the lease renewal has the chance to provide public comment through Aug. 7, 2024.
